Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures of Cairns is a crocodile farm offering ecotourism in the region. Located at about half an hour’s drive from Cairns enroute Port Douglas, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures was set up in 1934 and holds impressive crocodile shows for visitors who watch the reptiles’ antics, spellbound. The family that owns the farm is experienced in wildlife conservation and tourist activities. A stroll through the timber shaded walks and boating through the Hartley’s Lagoon is sure to be an educational sojourn through the wildlife of North Queensland. Aimed at conserving the natural habitat of the wildlife here and promoting awareness about these magnificent beasts, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is an ingenious attempt to turn a crocodile farm into a tourist paradise. The popular shows include feeding the crocodiles and Charlie, a friendly 80 year old crocodile is indeed the star here. A guided tour is an enlightening experience and gives us rare insight into the flora and fauna of the region. The restaurant in the precincts, Lilies Restaurant, offers great food and a spectacular view of the crocodile infested lagoon. A gift shop and a conference and education center here ensure that besides ecotourism, the farm may be a choice venue for corporate conferences and small parties. Other than crocodiles other animals such as kangaroos, koalas, ratites, dingoes and snakes are housed here. Address: Hartleys Creek Crocodile Farm, Captain Cook Highway.
