Cairns City Council
Cairns City Council was constituted in the year 1995 by amalgamating the erstwhile Cairns City Council and Mulgrave Shire Council. Simultaneously amalgamation between the Gold Coast/Albert and Ipswich/Moreton in the state’s southeast region also took place.

Mayor- The mayor of Cairns City is Cr Kevin Byrne.
Ceo- Mr David Farmer is the Ceo of Cairns City Council.

Role of Cairns City Council -The Cairns City Council provides for the present and planning for the future by -

- delivering affordable services, quality and public infrastructure to Cairns
- facilitating and encouraging environmentally sustainable social, economic and cultural development and prosperity for the city and
- Ensuring that the operations of the Council are environmentally, economically, culturally and socially sustainable.

Cairns City Council has recently developed a new Planning Scheme known as Cairns Plan for the City of Cairns in North Queensland. Cairns Plan consists of the city’s future development plans for the next 10 – 15 years.

Cairns Plan provides the infrastructure for sustainable and creditworthy development within Cairns. It seeks to ascertain that Cairns continues to maintain its desirable lifestyle and remarkable character, while also fostering growth and development.
