Cairns lying in the north of Queensland between the 16°57'S and 145°45'E is one of the famous tropical destinations in Australia as well as the world. Queensland is the second largest state of Australia. The Cairns City is situated at a distance of 2500(1,553 miles) km from Sydney and 1720 km (1,069 miles) from Brisbane in Australia. In fact Cairns lies on the eastern shore of Cape York Peninsula on a narrow strip of coastal land between the Great Dividing Range and the Coral Sea. The Northern region of the Cairns city is situated on the Trinity Bay and the central part of the city is situated on the Trinity Islet. Some suburbs of the city of Cairn lie on the fertile plains. The Mulgrave River and Barron River doesn’t flow through the city but within the boundary of the city. Within the city’s boundaries also lies the highest mountain in Queensland- Mount Bartle Frere. Cairns lie in the vicinity of the Great Barrier Reef and the Tropical rainforests and thus form a gateway to these worlds famous Heritage listed destinations. The Northern Beaches of the city are of less elevation and extends over many kilometers consisting of beaches like Holloways Beach, Machans Beach, Trinity Park, Trinity Beach, Yorkeys Knob, Kewarra Beach, Clifton Beach, Palm Cove and Ellis Beach. Apart from this, Cairns has a wide-ranging topography with tidal wetlands, mudflats, freshwater lakes, mangrove swamps and coastal plains.
