The Tinaroo Dam is situated on the Barron River. It is located at distance of 12 kilometers from the Atherton and 37 kilometers from Mareeba. General information
The dam has a major contribution in conserving the waters of the Barron River which is used for irrigation and hydro power generation. A total of 800 framers are helped by the construction of this dam who get the water from the channel system or by private diversions systems from the streams. The decision to build the dam was taken in 1952. The construction work started in 1953 and it came to an end in 1968 with a total expenditure of $12,666,000. Attractions
