The city of Cairns is one of the major transport hub of the extreme northern region
of Queensland. Being positioned at the tip of Cape York Peninsula , it's a crucial
linkage between the Gulf of Carpentaria, the peninsular regions and the southern
states. The Cairns International Airport is considered to be an essential centre
of the tourism industry. The city has an excellent network of roads along which
connects all the major points of it. The Bruce Highway, The Captain Cook Highway,
The Kennedy highway and the Gilles Highway, are the major road links of the city.
The public transport of Cairns is varied as well as cheap.
Buses operated by some private agency plies throughout , at regular intervals.
The Whitecar coaches and the Sunbus are the two most prominent bus services
of the city. The railway system of Cairns is also praiseworthy. The city acts
as a terminus of the North Coast Railway Line of Queensland. The Kuranda Scenic
railway also operates from the city. This is basically a tourist railway and
not meant for commuter service.
The Cairns sea port is also a very active one, though chiefly used for freight
services and is essentially a cruise halt. Infact cruise ship operations make
this sea port renowned across the nation.
