History of Celebrate Canberra
Canberra was chosen as the capital for the commonwealth of Australia in 1908. The competition to design the new capital was won in 1911 by the American architect Walter Burley Griffin and his wife. The Australia Capital Territory came to be declared in 1911, and subsequently in 1989, became a self-governing territory.
When
Built around Canberra's birthday, March 12, Celebrate Canberra, takes place over 10 days in March, annually. Canberra Day is celebrated on the third Monday in March.
This year, Celebrate Canberra is from March 11 to Monday March 19.
