Canberra has had a stormy past, and came to be the advanced modern city that it presently is after many struggles. A testimony of the European spirit of leading the way, and breaking ground in a new, unknown place can be had from this historical site called Blundells' Cottage, Canberra.

Blundells' Cottage, Canberra was built in 1859 as a home for workers on the Duntroon Estate, which was occupied by a number of families for over hundred years. William Ginn the head ploughman was the first occupant, followed by the newly-weds George and Flora Blundell, after whom the cottage was named.

Blundells' Cottage, Canberra lies near the Lake Burley Griffin, and is one of the few places that act as a reminder of Canberra's stormy past. It initially consisted of four rooms, with a separate kitchen (a slab building, adjoining the back of the Cottage), built around 1860 and was expanded around 1890 to take in two back rooms. The Cottage roof was originally made of wooden shingles but was recast with corrugated iron at the time of extension.

Blundells' Cottage, Canberra was made a museum and tells the history of the cottage and of the time when Canberra was not the national capital. There is available a guided tour of the cottage, where one can get to know about the rooms and try out the artifacts over there. Blundells' Cottage, Canberra is open from 11am till 4pm daily, excluding Christmas Day. Admission fees to the Cottage are $4 for adults, and $10 for families.
