A fresh water river in the Australian Capital Territory is the Cotter River, which is a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River. On this river, three dams, named as the Corin Dam, Canberra, the Bendora Dam and the Cotter Dam are built, which provide water to Canberra. The majority of the Cotter catchment is situated in the Namadgi National Park.

The most important catchment for water supply to Canberra, Corin Dam, Canberra is the highest dam on the Cotter River that was built in 1968 to regulate water supply to the smaller Bendora Dam downstream. Seventy-two metres high Corin Dam is an earth and rockfill embankment dam, which contains 75,400 million litres of water. The surrounding area of Corin Dam is extremely spectacular and is the home of wildlife like endangered fish, a lot of woodland birds and Canberra bluebells. Facilities such as toilets, picnic tables and gas barbecues are available in this area.
