In fact its unique atmosphere makes it popular not just with local students but students of other universities as well. The ANU Union bar is one of the oldest and the most reputed bars in Canberra. Its fame as a good live music venue has reached legendary proportions. And why would it not, pray? The bar has hosted the veritable who's who of the Australian music scene since the 1970s. It has witnessed sold out gigs by Nirvana and has played host to Sonic Youth, Public Enemy and The Violent Femmes. The location of the bar adds to its popularity.
