Australia abounds in different rare species of animals and both the government
and the people are extremely concerned about the preservation of Nature and wildlife.
Canberra has plenty of Wildlife & National Parks, both government and private
sponsored. Here are some of the significant Parks:
Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra: This garden preserves and promotes
Australian flora and also cultivates many other endangered native plants. There
is a rainforest gully, Eucalyptus lawn, rock garden and lots more. The Australian
government administers the garden.
National Zoo and Aquarium, Canberra: This Zoo and Aquarium is privately owned
and puts an enormous effort in preserving the endangered and endemic animal
species. The aquarium boasts a collection of 8 different species of sharks and
also other marine life. The Zoo also provides opportunities to the animal lovers
to adopt their favorite animals from the Zoo.
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Canberra: This Reserve covers a large area and consists
of a large valley floor, Tidbinbilla Mountain and the Gibralter Range. There
are plenty of bushwalks in the Reserve and it also abounds in a large variety
of wildlife that includes Kangaroos, Koalas, Lyebirds and Emus.
Australian Reptile Centre, Canberra: You will find almost all species of Australian
Reptiles in this Park including a large number of deadly snakes. There is also
a snake shop in the Centre that allows you to take some souvenir of your visit
to this place.
Black Mountain Nature Park, Canberra: The Black Mountain Nature Park is the
largest of Canberra's 27 Nature Parks. The most interesting feature of this
park is the Black Mountain Tower and the Australian National Botanic Gardens.
Namadgi National Park, Canberra: The granite mountains of the Alps that the
Park protects, is its main attraction. There is also a wide variety of fauna.
Jerrabomberra Wetland, Canberra: This wetland serves as a refuge to innumerable
migratory waterbirds.
