The National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra is a privately owned organization that is putting enormous effort in the preservation of wildlife and fishes. The National Zoo and Aquarium also offers picnic facilities to its visitors and is open on all days from 10.00am to 5.00pm excepting the Christmas day. - The Zoo takes care of several endangered animals like the Sumartan Tiger, Sun Bear, Murray Cod and the golden-shouldered parrot and also organizes for breeding programs for some of these species.
- There are special Zoo Venture Tours that are very thrilling and amusing and allows you to watch the pranks of the wild animals really close! The tour costs $95 on weekdays and $125 on weekends. Children below the age of 10 are not permitted to take these tours.
- The Aquarium houses eight species of sharks and several other marine lives.
