Contemporary music in Australia is a fine blend of the Indigenous Australian music and European musical influences on Australian society. The Indigenous Australians had developed their own musical compositions. Music has been part of their ritual and social culture. The impassioned and intensely lyrical Bunggul, the songs specifically sung by the different clans and tribes such as Groote Eylandt (Emeba), Yirrkala (Fjatpangarri), Arnhem Land (Manikay), the Dreamtime music traditions such as Yiri, the songs narrating popular activities such as gaming and tracking, the melancholy melody of the Death Wail, the fervid karma songs and the lilting notes of the Didgeridoo and musical rituals such as the Krill Krill, Kun-Borrk and Wangga mark the Aboriginal Music of Australia. The European settlers in Australia brought in their own trends and preferences in music. Rock and Roll, Country Hip Hop, and Reggae won over the native Australians and the settlers alike. With the advent of such popular music, the aboriginal native music was eclipsed for a while. Then again with the endeavors of the younger lot such as Jimmy Little, Yothu Yindi, Troy Cassar-Daley, NoKTuRNL, Christine Anu and Seaman, aboriginal music found a new lease of life. These maestros effectively combined popular music and the native melodies to form a fusion liked by the newer generations. The Deadlys, TheWarumpi Band, Us Mob and No Fixed Address caught on quickly and gained immense popularity. Australia has produced many fine classical musicians such as Same Nellie Melba and Dame Joan Sutherland, both popular sopranos of their times. The musical symphonies and opera companies made their way into Australian society in the early 20 th century. Other classical musicians such as Alfred Hill and Percy Grainger have claimed international renown. Peter Sculthorpe and Richard Mills are well-loved composers in Australia. Jazz was introduced to the Australian society way back in teh early 19th century. However a bifurcation occurred soon and traditional jazz or "Dizieland" and the more liberal swing soon had their own followers. Much experimentation and fusion has been done since then and the emergence of groups such as The Catholics, Wanderlust, The Neck and AustraLYSIS proves the popularity of Jazz culture in Australia. Australia has produced a large number of excellent rock artists and groups. The Easybeats, The Seekers, AC/DC and Savage garden are probably the most famous among the groups having won renown. Ever since its introduction in the early 20th century, generations of rock stars have shaken up the musically inclined nation and a number of awards and festivals have come up to commemorate the love of rock among the Australians. Music channels and radio broadcast stations, music recording facilities and sound engineering has flourished in the nation, thanks to the phenomenal success of rock in Australia.
