The imposing presentation of the aircrafts and other equipments makes the museum a must watch in the city of Darwin. The equipments in display truly display the involvement of the Northern Territory in civil and military aviation operations in the past.
The museum has a brilliant display of Mirage and Sabre Jet fighters along with the ex-Royal Australian Navy Wessex helicopter which incidentally helped in the cleanup of Darwin after the massive Tracy cyclone. The city was hugely affected and massive loss of property took place; the help lend by the ex-Royal Australian Navy Wessex helicopter was indispensable.
The Australian Aviation Heritage Centre, Darwin was opened for public viewing from 1990. The purpose was to build up facilities for better exhibition of the equipments by the Northern Territory Government. The place was under the supervision of the honorary members of the Society of Northern Territory. The society members always remain active for in the recovery and restoration of aircraft and other artifacts for the betterment of the heritage center.
