Darwin Weather

Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville
Hot sun-drenched days and warm gentle wind blowing off Australia are the staples of the Darwin Weather, making it an attractive place to visit at any time of the year. Though original Australians from this area segregate the year into six seasons, but in Darwin citizens usually prefer to think in terms of the 'wet' and the 'dry'.

The climate of Darwin is mainly tropical, with the dry months from May to September and the wet season from December to March.

The humidity levels begin to climb in October when wet season begins in Darwin. By the months of January and February the combination of heat and humidity becomes quite stifling. The end of the wet is characterized by the fierce storms. These storms are termed by the Aborigines as 'knock 'em down storms'. By contrast, the dry is a delicious time of year - sunny and warm.

Temperatures range from 25-33C (77-91F) in summer and 20-30C (69-88F) in winter.

The average rainfall of this city is 321mm (13 inches) in summer and 2mm in winter. The first days of March saw the North Australian Monsoon bringing widespread and ongoing shower and storm activity to northern districts, though nothing of great magnitude. The associated cloudy conditions also suppressed daytime temperatures, especially over the western Victoria River district. Thereafter, the largesse dried up with only the odd thunderstorm being reported here and there.

A considerably dissimilar story is to be told regarding the Territory's southern half. Dry easterlies motivated by a procession of sub tropical highs moving through the Great Australian Bight conquered the region bringing a surplus of day time heat and a yet another failed rainfall month.
