In Darwin, finding a dull moment is truly a tough task to handle! The place is filled with the best of everything you may ask from a tourist spot. Aquascene Darwin is just one of the ingredients of this great ever happening spot. The place is famous for its fish feeding activity. The tourists get the fun of feeding some of the most exciting sea creatures from the point which presently is a popular sightseeing spot in Darwin. The place gives the feel of feeding the fishes in the aquarium; the difference being that this isn't an artificial one rather the place is the ocean front. Located at the Doctors Gully, Aquascene is considered to ba right at the heart of Darwin. Hundreds of fishes come to the shore regularly during the high tide and enjoy being fed by humans, giving immense pleasure to them too. As a business name Aquascene was first registered in the year 1981 as per the desire of the owners. The practice was shared by the partners till 1988 when a company was formed. Presently the company is owned by Dreprey Pty Ltd. It was in 1950's when the first landlord of the property started the habit of feeding the fishes at the shore. Few mullets which had swum to the shores came back again the next day for the bread crumbs. This continued for days to come and ultimately became a hobby. The number of fishes too increased as did the number of species. The feeding became a regular affair and has now transformed into a business. Later on the different owners of the property build a seaside residence and slowly the practice propagated to the common population as well. in 1981, in demand for better viewing facilities and information about the place and the feeding times the whole process was formalized into a tourist attraction and was properly opened for the public. Aquascene opens everyday (except Christmas) at the time of high tide. The timings are regulated by the tidal movements and vary from day to day. Enjoy feeding the huge, fat, Diamond Scaled Mullet, Milkfish, Catfish, Green Backed Mullet, Bream, Tierra Batfish, Shovel Nosed Ray and Blue Spotted Fantail Stingray!
