Baseball in Darwin had its tentative beginnings courtesy the Japanese anglers and the American servicemen settled here. Things became more organized and regulated only since 1953, thanks to a basketball buff named Charles Se Kee, who was a prominent member of the Darwin Chinese Community and also the president of the Darwin Basketball Association.
Baseball in Darwin, Australia was not the grand affair that you see today. In fact, the Darwin baseball scene was too sedate with competitive matches being held amongst four teams only. It was a time when there wasn't even a properly-shaped baseball field; the players had to make do with the Darwin Oval, a venue more popular for hosting private parties.
