The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is one of a kind. It is also one of the major races of Australia. This annual event attracts a large number of people to Australia every year.
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is held every year on the first Sunday of July. The entire race consists of a marathon, a half marathon, a 10 kilometers run, a seven and a half kilometers walk and also includes a 4 kilometers and a two and a quarter junior dash. The event has been held in this place for the past 28 years and in the year 2007, it will complete its 29 th year. The first marathon was held on the 2nd of September in the year 1979. The marathon is organized and managed by an event management company called Queensland Events Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon attracts a large number of athletes from all across the globe. Nearly 12,500 people from 30 countries participate in this event every year. People of all age groups and fitness levels participate in this race. Each participant has to get a written confirmation so as to be allowed to participate in this race. Participants are provided with race kits for this marathon. Electronic timing system is used to record the time of the runners. One has to be 18 years of age to participate in the marathon. The winner of the race is awarded a cash prize of $10,000. Participants are also provided with certificates after the end of the race.
All the necessary arrangements are made in order to ensure the health and safety of the participants. A total of 8 refreshment stations are set up from where the participants can get some light snacks. These refreshment stations are located every 5 kilometers. A total of seven water stations are also set up every 7.5 kilometers. Ambulance services are available in case of emergencies.
