Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast is located only a few kilometers from the Surfers Paradise beach, at the foot of the city's Hinterland. This picturesque village-like town has an age-old history, which is extremely fascinating. With the starting of the railway, Mudgeeraba has prospered by leaps and bounds and came into prominence. The primary industries include timber and cattle farming. Affected by the Great Depression, the Austinvilles established their settlements here in 1930's to accommodate and relocate the jobless people. Today Mudgeeraba is well known for its farmer's produce market. The market held on the second and fourth Saturday of every month is crowded by hundreds of sellers and thousands of buyers.
Mudgeeraba hosts a large number of events throughout the year. Among the local events Mudgeeraba Show is very famous. Held in July every year the Mudgeeraba Show is observed through a very colorful celebration. Another eminent festival is the Somerset Celebration of Literature, when leading Australian writers hold several workshops and public events.
