Hobart is a very popular city in Australia and is regarded as a tourist's hub
because of the places of diverse interest here. Among all the important places
in Hobart, Louisa's Walk is one such landmark destination in Hobart which
is a must visit for all those touring the region. The place takes one a trip down
the memory lane as it is a place seeped in history. It is actually a stroll theater
specially arranged to take one into the background of Louisa Regan who was convicted
and packed off to Van Diemen's Land for a seven year sentence in 1841 simply on
the ground of stealing a loaf of bread. This has become a very important place
for all tourists to visit, as the story is fascinating and heart rendering.
Louisa's Walk is an important destination and tourists and local visitors are
found to be flocking to the place to be a part of the historical background
of the place. There are two actors- Judith and Chris Cornish who get dressed
only to explain to the visitors the full story of Louisa's Life and tourists
are taken into the Cascade Brewery in the interior region of South Hobart along
the side of the Hobart Rivulet and of course the Female factory which was the
place where the Louisa's Walk ends. The walk however ends on a positive note
after the depressing beginning. The highlight of the place is that it narrates
the history of her life in the prison and marriage. The story is actually a
mirror reflection of the lives of all men and women who have languished in prisons.
Judith and Chris are the two trained actors who go on to enact the lives of
Louisa and all those close to her in her life.
The walk is actually all of 90 minutes and all are advised to carry enough
protection in the form of umbrellas and sunscreens to protect oneself from the
sun. The walk is conducted daily once at 2.15 pm and then again at 5.00 pm(from
October 1 to April30th). However special arrangements can be made for a trip
in the winter, though the authorities need to be informed from beforehand.
The tourists in order to take a walk should assemble at the Cascade Brewery
Building on Cascade road in Southern Hobart. However all tourists are advised
to make prior arrangements and bookings through the Tasmanian Travel and Information
Centre in order to avoid rush.
