Taste of the Huon Festival in Hobart is one of the most important regional festivals
of Tasmania. This is primarily a food festival, which celebrates the food and
wine of this fabulous Huon Valley region.
Celebrated in the month of March every year this festival is held in the Huon
Valley, an area known for its apple production, lush green surroundings and
numerous boat building and whaling industries. This unique festival is held
for two days. It is organized by a non-profit making committee. The proceeds
of the festival are used to sponsor development projects and provide scholarships
to students eager to study at the Drysdale Institute of Tafe.
A large number of food stalls are set up in the Taste of the Huon festival
in Hobart. You can get to see some of the best qualities of apples, berries,
olives, pears and other fruits and vegetables in these stalls. There are numerous
stalls, which sell pickles, jams, exotic herbs and other food items in this
event. You can also buy them from here at prices lower than those in the supermarkets.
One can try out the delicious wines and the gourmet delights prepared in the
numerous food stalls in this fair. A large number of entertainment programs
and activities are also organized for the visitors in the Taste of the Huon.
There is something for everybody over here. Children can enjoy the antis of
the clowns while the adults can dance to the melodious music played by the local
musicians. A large number of dance performances are also held over here. You
can pay a visit to the game stalls and play some of the funny and exciting games
also.
Entry to the Taste of the Huon in Hobart is not free. The admission fee is
$5 per person. However, children below 16 years can enter free of cost. The
venue for the fair keeps changing every year. For the year 2007, the festival
will be held in the Ranelagh Showground in Ranelagh.
