Parliament House, Hobart is one the most significant buildings of the Tasmanian
government .It is located on Salamanca place in Hobart, Tasmania. The Parliament
House, Hobart was inaugurated in the year 1825.
The Parliament House was originally designed by the famous government architect
John Lee Archer as a customs house in the year 1930. This extremely splendid
two-storied sandstone building was built using condemned labour. The official
work, mostly done by convict laborers, began on 3 January 1835. The basement
level of the building was almost completed within March 1836. In the year 1838
the second storey of the building was ready for use. After Tasmania acquired
independence in the year 1856, this building was renovated for parliamentary
use.
Besides the two Chambers that is Tasmanian Legislative Council and the Tasmanian
house of Assembly, Parliament House nowadays also has an official lodging for
its Members and staff. The Parliament House has the Parliamentary Library located
on the ground floor. The library has a vast collection of books and interesting
historical documents that are accessible for viewing. Offices for ministers,
dining rooms and reception areas and interview rooms are also present in the
House.
Wide range of renovation work has been made to the Parliament House under Federal
heritage programs since the year 1998.This renovation work has restored the
building its original condition, which has eventually removed many of the modifications,
made over the years. The people paying a visit to the Parliament House can view
the impressive central entrance decorated by a parapet with an attractive cornice
and the stonework. Moreover, the visitors can also enjoy a refreshing walk amidst
magnificent oak trees.

The Parliament House remains open from 10 m to 4 pm on all days of a week from
