Salamanca Market
The Salamanca Market is a native open market that takes place on Saturdays in the South of Hobart, Salamanca Place. The market remains open from 8.30am to 3pm. There are plenty of stalls that display various aboriginal artifacts, flowers, fruits, vegetables and much more that make the place all colorful and buzzing with life. The market was initiated in 1972 with only 10 stalls and since then it has evolved into one of Hobart's most popular tourist destinations. Today there are about 300 stalls selling all sorts of things. The jewelries are enticing and if you are not satisfied with the open stalls, there are plenty of boutiques along the road as well. There is also a historic waterfront near the market that is worth viewing.

The market sells Tasmanian hand worked glass, clothes, books, curios, soft woolen garments, shawls and antique rugs that can enhance the beauty of your homes. You can find superb second hand stalls as well. There are also cafes and galleries all round the place and the street is lined with beautiful trees. The place is the cultural center of Hobart and you must drop in to this colorful marketplace to have a real taste of Tasmania. There is adequate car parking facilities around the place as well. Here are the names of some miscellaneous shops that are around the main market:
- Banjos Bakery
- The Hobart Book Shop
- Machine Laundry Café
- Say Cheese
- Rendezvous
- Morrisons of Euroa
- Mr. Woobys Restaurant

If you are wondering what to buy from Hobart as a souvenir or gift for your dear from this place, you must once step into this market. The friendly and warm ambience, the noise and laughter, the simple people will melt your heart. There are so many things that you can buy from this place. The Salamanca Market is an absolutely as good as an open market can be and you will find it truly worth your visit.
