Agfest is Tasmania is true in the strictest sense of the term as it is festival that is dedicated to the growth of agriculture and other allied activities. The World Ploughing can be considered as the precursor to the entire event of Agfest as after the World Ploughing Festival a committee was formed which worked towards the success of the first Agfest.
The Agfest is managed by a volunteer committee comprising of thirty rural youth members and ex members with an average age of twenty four with a lot of zeal and energy for agriculture and life.
The festival provides dual purpose benefits for the people involved because other than providing a thrust to the agricultural community it provides an opportunity to the people involved in this agricultural festival to achieve personal growth.
The festival has grown from strength to strength and today it is recognized as one of the top three field days in Australia. The festival has also won quite a few coveted awards and its fame and popularity just keeps on increasing.
Agfest started way back in the 1980's with the first one being held at Symmons Plains, Perth. The first event itself was a runaway success with over hundred exhibitors and nine thousand patrons coming together for a couple of days.
However from 1984 the event became a three day affair and the festival had grown too big to be accommodated in the Symmons Plains site and the committee went searching for a bigger and better place and they finally decided on about two hundred acres at Carrick.
The first Agfest to be held in the new site was in 1987 which attracted more than two hundred exhibitors and more than twenty thousand patrons.
The team that manages the Agfest comprises of young and motivated individuals who put in a lot of effort and hard work for the festival which provides them immense satisfaction and sense of pride.
