There has been a constant growth in the fully crewed division which just goes to show that people are very serious about the race and they refrain from racing short- handed.
The three peaks race is in its eighteenth year and is a four day test running endurance and sailing skills.
The race consist of two teams of runners who have to complete three marathon-length runs which include scaling Mt. Strzelecki, on Flinders Island in Bass Strait, Mt. Freycinet, at Coles Bay on Tasmania's East Coast, and Mt. Wellington in Hobart.

The course usually comprises of about one hundred of forty kilometers of running and nearly six hundred kilometers of sailing in some of the most challenging stretches of Australia.
The concept is not unique in the truest sense of the term as this concept has already been tried and tested in the United Kingdom.
The three peaks race has a few innovative rules which make the race exciting and challenging. The major divisions of the race include the Main racing Division, cruising Division and the fully crewed division.
The race committee has taken an innovative step of advising the new participants on both sailing and running in order to help new competitors to build a good team. Teams are also given advice on navigation on the difficult regions of the race.
The race attracts a lot of talent from far across the globe including most of the Australian states, The United Kingdom, New Zealand and the United States of America.
The starting point of the race is Beauty Point on Good Friday and it usually ends in Hobart a few days later and is one of the most exciting activities that you can do in Launceston.
