The Royal Launceston Show is a major agricultural event that takes place in Launceston with more than fifteen thousand people attending the show on a regular basis. The event is more of a carnival with a steady mix of sporting events, food and other forms of live entertainment. The show is a celebration of the Tasmanian industry in general and the primary industries in particular. The show has loads of other attractions like wood chopping, fashion parades, rides, sideshows, and animals, plenty of food, show bags for the kids, horse events and plenty of other entertainment.An agricultural show is essentially a public event that is meant to showcase the equipment, animals, sports and recreation which are essentially associated with farming and agriculture. In addition to this a sneak peek into the lives of the farmers are also given to make the people understand about the lives and means of livelihood of these people. Australia as a country gives immense importance to the cultural life and its depiction, the events may vary in stature and duration but they have a common agenda of providing an insight to the lives of the people who are being depicted. Field day though is a related concept in which one display machineries, equipments and skills that are related in broad acre farming. They might also include events such as Ploughing competitions which bring in the competition with a touch of farming. At least ten such shows are held all over Australia with two agriculture festival being held in Tasmania alone. The agricultural show is labeled in different terms in different parts of the world and is referred to as fairs in the commonwealth countries. There are quite a few competitions which are associated with the festival like cooking, photography, sheaf tossing, show jumping etc.
