The Shop was run by Shott family for three generations until the responsibilities for its preservation fell into the hands of National Trust. The Trust has played a big part in preventing this charming shop from being sacrificed at the Alter of real estate. The charge of the Old Umbrella Shop was undertaken in 1979.
The Old Umbrella Shop enjoys the status of 'Classified' on the Register of the National Trust of Australia. The Shop has many volunteers belonging to the Trust working in it.
The Old Umbrella Shop is a three-storey structure building with a cellar. The interior look of the shop has been well preserved.
Apart from selling fashionable umbrellas and souvenirs, the Old Umbrella Shop also has an open exhibition of umbrellas, some of which are over centuries old.
The Old Umbrella Shop is open on all six days of the week.
