History of Golf in Australia goes back to the colonial days in the early nineteenth century. The sport's early history in the country is dominated by the rivalry between the Australian Golf Club in Sydney and Royal Melbourne Golf Club; the passing years have done little to alleviate the rivalry, which has added interesting contours to the shaping of golf history in the country.
Located little less than ten minutes from Launceston is Country Club Tasmania, which has a beautiful 18-hole golf course. The golf course was designed by the golfing legends, Mike Wolveridge and Peter Thomson. The course fulfills all the pre-requisites of an international golf course. The course remains open all the week through and has a coach to offer tips to the players.
There are a number of golf tours organized by tour operators in Tasmania that promise to take the visitors on a bus tour of all the golf courses in Tasmania. Visitors can play at the courses while the bus waits for them.
