Stillwater is a heaven for the food lovers in Launceston. Serving a variety of international cuisines, the restaurant remains a favorite among the tourists and locals alike. The restaurant which bustles as a popular café in the morning, transforms itself magically into a stylish dining establishment at night. The restaurant is credited as one of the best in Launceston, and has bagged a number of prizes like the Best Australian Restaurant, Best Fine Dining, Tasmanian Restaurant of the Year, and a few others. An exotic locale adds to the charm of dining here as the restaurant is nestled by the sparkling flow of the Tamar River. Stillwater is housed in an old flour mill which has been restored to serve as a splendid eatery. The place however, still retains an old world look which enhances the charm of dining here. The patio outside offers heavenly views of the river flowing by and is an excellent place to lounge in with a cup of coffee. The interiors are cozily furnished with timber which adds to the warmth of the place and makes dining a truly delightful experience in the century old building. The food which Stillwater serves is crafted with care to bring to the tables an array of meat and seafood specialties. The menu here is improvised to include seasonal specials and a distinct Asian flavor lingers in the food to tingle the Australian taste buds. The food served is modified to suit the seasons and the lighter dishes served in summer are replaced by spicier ones by Chef Don Cameron. The regular diners here would recommend the Shredded King Prawns of Stillwater. Shaved Baby Tasmanian Abalone, Assiette of rabbit and Ginger Rubbed Petuna Salmon are a few other must haves of the place. Stillwater serves an excellent collection of wines, and the desserts too come in a wide and unique variety. The sunny courtyard is spacious enough to hold eighty people, though only about sixty can be accommodated in the interiors. There is a separate wine cellar which is an ideal spot for formal meets. The private dining room can hold around 14 people for small gatherings and private celebrations. Address: Ritchie's Mill Patterson Street Launceston TAS 7250
