25th April is a very important date in the Australian calendar as it the day that commemorates the anniversary of Australian and New Zealand forces arriving at Gallipoli. Anzac is the abbreviated form for Australian New Zealand Army Corps, actually signifying patriotism, heroism and sacrifice, as these were the three main attributes that stood out amongst the Anzacs when they met with their deaths. Thus this is the day which stands to tribute the heroic spirit of all those who gallantly gave up their lives in the First World War.

Main Event

The March forms an integral part in the celebration of the day. The March is widely popular and many eager enthusiasts participate in the march. The march traditionally begins at the intersection between Swanston Street and Little Bourke Street and finally halts at Shrine of Remembrance. Australian Navy Cadets along with servicemen, defencemen force their families, soldiers, army men and even everyday men take part in the march.

The ceremony proceeds as follows:

Wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph
Commemorative service at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde
Sunset Service at Cenotaph
Anzac Day March.
One special feature of the day is the ‘gunfire breakfast’. It consists of coffee and rum and occurs shortly after the ceremonies that take place at dawn.

9.00 a.m.

Venue

The City center at Cenotaph on Queens Park. This place is situated at the corner of Sussex and Adelaide Streets Maryborough.

Participation

Australian Navy Cadets are the main participants in this auspicious march. The group comprises of 12 and a half to 18 year olds wearing navy uniform though they are not a part of the Navy.
