Redbank Winery Melbourne

Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville
The Redbank Winery, a famous Melbourne winery and a distinctly Australian kind, was established in 1973 in the Pyrenees region of Central Victoria, 2 hours northwest of Melbourne. It is named after the small town, Redbank, situated three kilometers to the north of Melbourne. The Redbank Winery, Melbourne was started and continues to be entirely owned and operated by Neill and Sally Robb.

Neill and Sally Robb planted the first vines at Redbank Winery, Melbourne in 1973. This consisted of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Frank, Merlot and Malbec varieties. Today even after crossing three decades in wine business, the Redbank Winery continues to be listed among the best wineries in Melbourne.

The Redbank Winery has become kind of an institution among the wineries in Melbourne, thanks to the vision and hard work of the creator and operator of the winery. Today the area of vineyards at the Redbank Winery has grown to 45 acres of land, producing high quality grapes. The single non-irrigated vineyard of Sally Paddock, named after Neill's wife Sally, still continues to deliver a wine of wonderful complexity and depth. The other fine wines on offer at the Redbank Winery, Melbourne are Sally's Hill and Hundred Tree Hill.

The visitors at the winery have distinguished wines at the Redbank Winery, Melbourne as unique and special. The most prominent one being Sally's Paddock which has been listed as 'Distinguished' on the Langton's Classification of Distinguished Australian Wine, a cornerstone in the market of ultra-fine Australian wine. Their catalogue has included Sally's Paddock in its list since the inception of the wine. Sally's Paddock is a unique combination soil-type, cool-mild climatic characteristics and un-irrigated traditional culture vineyards entirely estate grown and bottled.

In 1975, Neill built the winery naming it the Redbank Winery, and a colonial style home, using local century old hand made red bricks. Today this has turned out to be a place with a splendid ambience where the visitors come to taste the wines

At the Redbank Winery the visitors are not only treated with tasteful wine but also with the delicious hand made dishes, at the Flying Pig Deli. This place is also a product of the creative ideas of Neil and the culinary skills of Sally. The menu here includes Neil's smoked lamb, ploughman's platter, specialty Chinese selections, espresso coffee and Sally's homemade cakes.

The entrance of the Redbank Winery, Melbourne, is a cellar door, which opens to all everyday. All in all the Redbank Winery is undoubtedly one of the best Melbourne tourist attractions given the unique ambience as well as fantastic wine and dine facilities it has to offer.

The opening hours at the Redbank Winery are as follows:

Mondays-Saturdays: 9a.m. to 5p.m.
Sunday's: 10a.m. to 5p.m.

Lunch at the Flying Pig Deli is served between 11a.m. to 3 p.m. However the Espresso coffee and Sally's cakes are available all day.
