The Grossi Florentino Restaurant, Melbourne, is one of the most popular and award-winning bistros here. This place has a history that is not only interesting but also awesome. The Grossi family bought this place six years back. Since then the bistro has undergone a subtle rejuvenation.

There are two main dining rooms upstairs. The first one is called Wynn’s Room after Samuel Wynn, a leading wine merchant in Melbourne who resided at 80 Bourke Street when the room was part of an apartment over the wine shop. This room still preserves the décor of the Edwardian period. The awesome stained glass windows, the ceiling domes graced by original wrought-iron light fittings, hand-forged by Emilio Gavotte, create a unique environment. Sitting arrangement for fifty guests is here.

The Mural room on the other hand was constructed much later. The Mural Room is bigger than the Wynn's Room, accommodating up to 80 guests, and makes a stunning venue for a medium-sized wedding or impressive business function. Both rooms offer a $35.00 lunch special from Monday to Friday, for two courses which also includes a glass of wine and coffee, as well as the a lá carte menu on offer for lunch and dinner Monday to Friday and dinner on Saturday.

The basic aim of this restaurant is to provide simple but quality food to its customers. The elegant atmosphere accompanied by extensive menu and the best wines make this place a hunting ground for Italian food lovers. The food is traditional Italian, including the signature Wet-Roasted Suckling Lamb and Suckling Pig. On the menu, too, are Risotto, seafood, and steak dishes. You will also find delicacies like spaghetti with seafood or any essential item like the Florentine-style T-bone of beef or and brains and calves' liver. The Chocolate Soufflé is truly special.

Under the management of the Grossi family, this restaurant is probably the best Italian restaurant in Melbourne. It has a casual bistro downstairs, next to the Cellar Bar where you can pick up a bowl of pasta for around A$13/US$10. The upstairs is the fine-dining restaurant, with its chandeliers and murals reflecting the Florentine way of life.

The Cellar Bar

The cellar bar is decorated in classic 1960’s paneling with a long bar running down the west wall. The ceiling of this bar is quite high and richly decorated. It is lit up delicately with locally forged, wrought iron chandeliers that emit a warm glow over the wooden bar, where the busy coffee machine and outstanding pastries are located. People throng this car all through the day. The bar opens from 7.30 am in the morning from Mondays to Fridays while 8.30 on Saturdays and shuts down at 1am the following day.

The Grill

The grill features a varied menu of both food and wine. You can see the flames of the stove flare up as the chefs prepare your delicacy. The quality and mouth watering delicious food accompanied with an excellent and swift service make this a perfect place for a business lunch, or for pre- and post-theatre dining. The Grill also offers business lunches of two courses plus a glass of wine for $22 per person.
