These are the legendary surfers who have achieved worldwide recognition in surfing after practicing for long hours on the beaches of Newcastle. Infact Newcastle is celebrated as the procreating ground of excellent surfers. Huge , lumpy, smooth and rolling are the waves on the beaches of Newcastle which creates superb surfing conditions. The interesting aspect of the city is that all round the year the weather is favourable for surfing. Mereweather, Dixon Park, and most of the beaches located at the interior of the city are extremely fecund for surfing. You may not be a pioneer in surfing but the lusty waves will draw you towards them and once a while you may even find yourself sharing a wave with a former world champion. The following beaches are considered to be the best and most suitable surfing grounds: - The Harbour - The Wedge - Nobby's Reef - Nobby's Bank - The Groper - Cowrie Hole or Flatrock - Newcastle Beach - South Newcastle Beach The Harbour is considered to be the most dangerous of all the beaches of Newcastle. The dreadful barrel waves are responsible for making it more infamous to the surfers. The very experienced ones can try out their mettle here on this beach. The Wedge is one of the most popular beaches to freak out. Big, clean swells make it suitable for surfing. The Nobby's Lighthouse nearby is also a major attraction. The Nobby's Reef is a beach where even a layman can try out surfing. Locals just love to plunge in the cool waters and plunder through the high waves. The Nobby's Bank is also a surfing zone but the waves are sometimes very heavy and the group of bodyboarders are a real trouble. The Necastle bEach and the South Newcastle beach have classy beachbreaks and the surfers would love spending some time here amidst the nice swell.
