A brief history of the Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle:- The district of Newcastle was firstly named the Coal River as this part was blessed with the valuable deposits of the coal. It was in the year 1812 that the first foundation of the Christ Church Cathedral in Newcastle was laid but its more firm structure was made in the year 1816 as a part of reconstruction. The functionary opening of the church was done on 2nd of August, 1818 as it started its operations from this day. The initiative of administering the area was taken by Captain Wallis as the commandant of Newcastle. On that very day 10 marriages and 30 baptisms were carried out; but officially no chaplain was yet appointed to carry out the religious duties, so theses services were performed by Commandants and their Officers. Chaplain was appointed:- G.A.Middleton was the first officially appointed chaplain of the Christ Church Cathedral of Newcastle in 1821 and he served untill 5th May, 1827 but due to the differences of the opinion with the Archdeacon he resigned and the second chaplain was appointed who also had the similar problems as with the first chaplain. The Building of the Cathedral:- The most conspicuous thing of the building of the Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle is its length which fascinates all the visitors from all over the place. More over the cathedral is equally notable for its history. This was on the site of the current cathedral. With incessant repair and attention of the building, this structure lived on to become the first Cathedral.
