His Majesty's Theatre
His Majesty's Theatre is a famous theatre in Perth, Western Australia. It is popularly known as "The Maj". This theatre house can be easily located at the corner of King Street and Hay Street in the CBD of Perth.

His Majesty's Theatre was inaugurated in 1904 during Christmas Eve. The architect of the theatre was William Wolfe and it was constructed by Gustav Liebe. The theatre still stands to be one of the best examples of Edwardian art. There was a massive cost that was incurred for building the adjoining hotel and the theatre - 42,000 pounds in two years during the 20th century gold boom.

Attractions

The His Majesty's Theatre is considered to be a heritage icon. The theatre has had the privilege to play host to a number of Shakespearean dramas, operas, large scale musicals, and ballets.

Many famous performers have given their performances here. The most well known performers are Katherine Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Sir John Gielgud, Dame Nellie Melba, Sir Robert Helpman and Rex Harrison.

His Majesty's Theatre has also been home to the Western Australian Ballet and the West Australian Opera.

Recent happening of His Majesty's Theatre

It was in 2006 that His Majesty's Theatre of Perth, Western Australia, came to be "twinned" with the Aberdeen His Majesty's Theatre.
