The Barracks Arch is a freestanding brick arch. Today it allows a peek into the grand structure that once stood there. It is located at the junction of the Malcolm and Elder Streets. It stands in almost in the middle of the city center on the western end of St Georges Terrace. The Barracks Arch, Perth is situated in front of the seat of the government. Designed by Richard Roach Jewell, the Barracks Arch is regarded as an odd architecture. It has its place in the History of Perth. Today it has become one of the major places to visit when you are Sightseeing in Perth.

The Barracks Arch, Australia was built in 1863 as a house for the retired Pensioner Forces and their families who used it till 1904. Originally it comprised of 120 rooms. The Pensioner Forces protected the citizens of Perth from the convicts during the mid and late 1800s. The Pensioner Forces were dissolved in favor of the police force. Offices of different government were housed in this building in the 20th century. But in 1966 two wings of the building were brought down for the Mitchell Freeway. Only the arch was saved due to public agitation.
