Earlier known as UZI 8mm film fest the Port Douglas Film Festival kick-started over a Sunday afternoon barbeque in the colorful corner of the Port Douglas backyard in 2000. The film festival which began with its motto "Lets all make films amongst our friends & have a film night soiree" with almost 400 people thronging the grounds in the first year. The next two years saw a considerable increase in the number people, thus testifying to its growing popularity. The increasing popularity will pave the pathway for an annual film festival weekend in the years to come. Port Douglas Film Festival in 2002 and 2003 was funded by a RADF (Regional Arts Development Fund). Port Douglas Film Festival or Port Shorts Film Festival takes place every year in November at the "Clink Theatre", Mowbray St Port Douglas. Port Shorts involves not just a town, but the whole Far North Queensland and beyond. Port Short covers Super 8mm, Animation and Digital which make for a thrilling experience.
