Batt Reef in Port Douglas is one of the major tourist attractions where the nature reigns at its vibrant best. Features of Batt Reef in Port Douglas • Batt Reef is a coral reef off Port Douglas in Queensland. • Batt Reef belongs to one of the two famous World Heritage listed areas, the Great Barrier Reef. • A part of the Great Barrier Reef, Batt Reef is about 18 km. long by 5 km. wide, lying northwest to southeast, at the northern side of Trinity Passage that leads from the inner Reef channel from Trinity Bay at Cairns to the Pacific Ocean. • The north-west tip of the reef lies 15 km. east of the Low Islets or Low and Woody Islands which are 16 km. east of Newell Beach and 11 km northeast of Port Douglas. • This is one of the biggest reefs in the system. • You can take one of the tour flights to the Batt Reef. • You can start off with an aerial view of the Port Douglas and Four Mile Beach and from there you can fly past Low Isles onto the Batt Reef. • The amazing combination of shades of marine blue and verdant green is a rare sight you will cherish forever. • This is an opportunity to experience one of the world's most rich and vibrant bio diversity. • Take back the marvelous images imprinted on your mind and don't forget to take some real snaps at the site. • Recently, the area received a lot of media attention following the death of Steve Irwin in 2006. • Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and environmentalist, popularly known as the Crocodile Hunter, was killed by a stingray while he was filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef. Irwin was killed by a stingray barb to the heart on Batt Reef.
