Location: The Cairns city is located some 2500 km from Sydney and is regional city in Queensland Australia.

Accessibility: Cairns can be reached by air, roadway or waterway. The Cairns International Airport links it to all the major parts of the country. The Railways also play a vital role in bringing outsiders to this place.

Getting Around: Moving to and fro in the city is not a problem as Cairns has a very good public transport system. The SunBus agency runs the entire bus service in the city. There are taxis also available from the main taxi rank.

Major sites to be visited : The cities major sites which lures tourists in large numbers are:

  • Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park: A specialty museum that has exhibits delineating the history and culture of the Tjapukai tribe. Live dance performances by local tribal are extremely entertaining.

The two big halls and several meeting rooms with plush interiors and quality services make it's a favorite venue for convention and meetings of international level.

Things to do: With the Great Barrier Reef nearby the tourists can go for scuba diving, rafting, snorkeling, reef cruising, and fishing in the cobalt waters of the sea. The place becomes a paradise for the scuba divers especially in the coral spawning season, when millions of eggs are released from the coral reef creating an underwater sparkler, an exhibition which is looked upon by man in wonder. Balloon flight in the early mornings is refreshing and lifts the spirits.

Shopping: Shopping is an indispensable component of Sightseeing in Cairns. The Cairns Centre Shopping Centre and Stockland shopping centre if not a shoppers paradise but accommodate a large number of branded stores and fashion souvenir shops within them.
