Sightseeing In Queenstown

Location: Located in the South West of New Zealands South Islands, the resort city of Queenstown is in Otago. The city is built around the Lake Wakatipu and gives excellent vista of the nearby mountains.

Getting there: Reaching Queenstown is very uncomplicated. One has to take a flight from Auckland or Christchurch to the Queenstown Airport. Queenstown can also be reached by rented cars through the highways that are connected to it.

Getting around: Rental Cars are the perhaps the best mode of transport while getting around sightseeing in Queenstown, but the snow buses are also excellent and they take you to the snowfilled spots. Taxi and public buses are available in plenty in the city. The bus service is quite regular.

Major Sites to be visited: The major attractions of the city are:

  • Lake Wakatipu: a placid turquoise water body which is bordered with mountains gives soothing feeling. The TSS Earnshaw is a vintage streamer which plies on its waters and visitors love to take a ride on it.
  • The skyline gondola or cable car which gives a panoramic view of the terrain of Queenstown. The blue waters patched with greeneries form a relishing view for the onlookers.
  • The Queenstown Airport at Frankton
  • Glenorchy: a picturesque settlement at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu, is close to the several tramping tracks and the Mount Aspiring National Park.
  • Routeburn Track which is the renowned tramping or hiking track is a must see.
  • The peaks of Cardrona, Coronet, Remarkables and Treble cone.

Things to do: Queenstown is regarded as a venue for adventure tourism. Skiing, jet boarding, bungee jumping, mountain biking, and tramping are some of the most popular activities of the tourists, done on the snowcapped slopes of the towering hills. Mount Ruapehu is the major snow sports centre of the city.

Shopping: Shopping forms an integral part of a trip. SO while going around the mesmerizing beauty of Queensland don't forget to take a peep into the lush malls, shopping centres and specialty shops of Queenstown. The Queenstown shopping mall is very unique. Its an open air shopping mall where one gets to find a series of shops selling diverse items from fine cloth to gift items. The ambience of the mall is very refreshing as it has trees lined on either side. There are cafeterias and restaurants in the mall too. Te other distinctly loveable place would be the Staemer Wharf Shopping Centre, which is located by the waterfront. It has two levels of shops with a huge variety of products from where you would like to pick up some. Nothing is that cheap here except the visuals of the mountains. The bungee sheep is the best souvenir to take back from the city.

Specialty: The city lies close to a wine – producing region, which is the most renowned in the entire southern part of the globe. Pinot Noir manufactured in this area are very pricey. So while leaving Queenstown a bottle of this premium wine must accompany you, otherwise the trip remains insufficient.
