Belvoir Street Theatre, Sydney was ideated by Sue Hill and Chris Westwood and finally took a concrete shape in the year 1984. The germ of the idea, which on conception took the shape of Belvoir Street Theatre, Sydney, was, coming up with a new and innovative theatre that would be owned and run by people who worked in it or loved the art. The intellection fast gained many supporters and in one weekend, Chris Westwood and Sue Hill convinced fifty of their friends to invest $1000 for the deposit on the building, followed by a further 550 investors from the arts and entertainment industry who came on board in the next six months.
