The conceptualization of this Government House building happened in the 1835, when the British Government decided to construct a new Government House in Sydney, prior to that the Old Government House was located in Parramatta. Though, it was only in 1845 that the Government House in Sydney became fully functional. Initially, the Government House in Sydney used to be the official residence of the Governor along with being the office and the official reception site of the Governor as well. However, this changed after 1996, from then onwards the Government House was no more the residence of the Governor and even to the extent that his day office was also shifted to the Chief Secretary's Office Building. The Government House of Sydney was constructed over a period of almost 8 years stretching from 1837 till 1845.
