The Sydney Aquarium is owned by the Sydney Attractions Group. The Aquarium consists of underwater glass tunnels and a re-creation of Great Barrier Coral Reef. It's a wonderful sight where sharks actually swim above the people inside the tunnel. The Great Barrier Coral Reef was started in the year 1998. The Sydney Aquarium is typically Australian and comprises of the different varieties of water habitats and ecosystems of Australia. There are almost 6000 different kinds of fish apart from the other water and sea creatures found in the aquarium.
The main exhibit hall and the floating oceanariums are used for some of the displayed items. There is a Seal Sanctuary as well, it was started in the year 1991. It mainly comprises of different types of seals from Australia and New Zealand. Penguin's are also on display as well. The Great Barrier Coral Reef consists of coral cave, tropical pool, a monumental oceanarium etc. These have been used to re-create the natural environment of the Coral Reef in the Aquarium. A Reef Theatre is present as well, which allows visitors to view the activity that goes on in the coral canyon.
The Sydney Aquarium is one of the most popular tourist sites of Sydney and more than half of the international tourists visiting Australia visit this place. The popularity of this place is ever increasing and will reach a step higher in the coming years as they plan to open an exhibit of Crocodiles by the year 2008. The owners of the Sydney Aquarium have also started another establishment called the Sydney Wildlife World as well.
