Sydney Hospital

Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville
The Sydney Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Australia, if not the oldest one in the whole country. The hospital was always considered a heritage one and has its lineage from the excellent service that was done by the first fleet of sick tents on the outskirts of Sydney by General John. The hospital was opened way back in the end of eighteenth century and it was pre fabricated in England from wood and copper which had arrived in the city of Sydney in the end of the eighteenth century. It was later moved to the Macquarie Street where it has stayed till 1811.
The hospital is located in the major business district of Sydney and comprises of more than a hundred beds for patients. It has specialized services catering to people from all over the New South Wales.
The hospital has had the history of being associated with important personalities like Florence Nightingale and Lucy Osburn.

The present hospital as it stands today comprises of three main buildings facing Macquarie Street. The original north wing of the house has been converted to the parliament house while the South wing has been converted to the mint museum.
The Sydney hospital also houses the first nursing school of the country opened by Lucy Osburn on the instructions of Florence Nightingale.

A clinical service building has been opened in the mid nineties and it complements the existing architectural style of the existing building. The hospital is also a hub for education as three academic departments associated to the universities of New South Wales and Sydney.
The hospital is also centrally located and there are means and ways of reaching the place as it is served by a couple of stations, Martin Place station is located directly opposite the hospital while the St James station is located at the end of the Macquarie street. If you want to take a bus then the bus number 200 stops directly opposite the hospital.
You might want to drive in with your own car as an on site underground car parking is available as it can accommodate a large number of cars. If you want to take ferries instead the circular Quay Ferry terminal is just a ten minutes of walk away from the hospital.
