Sydney Town Hall is one of the most prominent structures present in the city of Sydney in Australia. This structure was constructed over a time period of approximately 20 years before it was finally completed in the year 1889 complying with the Victorian style of Architecture. This is one of the most popular structures of Sydney and the clock of the Town Hall is an historic landmark as well. The Town Hall of Sydney has been built on the Old Burial Ground, which was operational from 1792 till 1820.

The Town Hall which is located in the southern direction to the Queen Victoria Building consists of the offices of the Lord Mayor along with the elected councilors and the Sydney City Council Chamber. Apart from that there are reception rooms and the Centennial Hall as well. This building has the highest level of modern facilities and is a major center of civic activities. The Town Hall is also a hub of cultural events as well. The Town Hall also has The Grand Organ comprising of 8000 pipes. Apart from the beautiful Concert Hall, organ recitals and concerts are also allowed to be performed in The Main Hall. However, this happens only during lunch hours and these are also free recitals.

The Town Hall also boosts of major collections which focuses on the traditional and historical aspect of Sydney. There are four major categories of the collections, they are, Decorative Arts and Furnishings, Civic History, Memorial Items and Official Gifts. These collections include the Woolcott Collection paintings, official plaques, items of the former Lord Mayors etc. This collection is very rich and covers all the aspects of city of Sydney. Some of these items are also open for public viewing as well.

The design of the Sydney Town Hall follows the Grand Victorian style of Architecture. The Original design was created by John Henry Wilson. However, in the following years to come other architects had also contributed in the designing aspect of the Town Hall. The Centennial Hall has been designed by Charles Sapsford. Albert Bond was the designer of the mansard roof and vestibule interiors. The famous Clock Tower was designed by Thomas and Edward Bradridge. The entire structure has been constructed by sandstone which is locally found in the city of Sydney. The Town Hall of Sydney is a major tourist attraction and every year loads of tourists visit this place. This place has been popular for more than a century now and is still one of the most visited destinations of the people of Australia as well. This structure has been maintained very well and hence the Town Hall is still functional in its original shape.
