The Marble Bar in Sydney

Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville
The Marble bar is an outstanding piece of art and has been in existence since the end of the nineteenth century. It is very difficult to stay in the bar with out making a compliment about its ceiling and the other decorative pieces that the place has. The place was originally called the George Adams bar and was built by the person of the same name by spending nearly thirty-two thousand pounds. The huge sum of money was made from the speculative venture of horse racing in the late nineteenth century.
The bar has elaborate and ornate decorations consisting of Corinithian columns with solid bronze capitals and tones of the finest quality marble shipped in from different parts of the world like Belgium and African quarries. The bar also has stained pictorial glass frames with fourteen superb Edwardian paintings.
This bar has been a heaven for music lovers in the late twentieth century and was filled with a number of cover bands and their colorful music. The place used to buzz with activity as there were a number of people like Groove artists, Bono-wannabes, ska lovers in matching Holden racing tops, fiddling minstrel types all vying for a place under the sun or perhaps the wonderful ceiling of the bar.
This was until 1968 when the Bar received an A rating from the National Trust of Australia following which the structure was moved to the Hilton hotel in Sydney. The reopening happened in the seventies and the bar was restored to its former glory, however as the days passed by smoke and time took its tool on the magnificent structure.
However with due care, effort and affection the place has been renovated and it is an ideal place to drink your heart away.
The crowd is an interesting mix and so is the list of drinks, a number of cocktails are available here and there are quite a few choices for the kind of people who want to stay off alcohol.
However it is not a nice place to go if you want to have a dinner because all you could do is end up having chips and nuts.
