Sydney Hobart Yacht race is one of the popular Australian yachts racing event. It was organized for the first time in the year 1945. The Sydney Hobart Yacht race is often regarded as The Blue Water Classic by the Australian media. The race is organized by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. It is organized in the month of December.

The race usually starts from Boxing Day and comes to an end in Hobart. The race covers an area of about 630 miles. This yacht race nowadays, attracts maxi yacht from the countries like North America and Europe. This exciting race is participated both by the club sailors as well as renowned sailors, who have taken part in some of the most famous yachting race. Small yachts and big yachts are seen in this race. The most famous yacht designer is Bruce Farr of New Zealand. He has designed many yachts, among which 15 yachts have won the competition.

History of the race:
The first race was held in the year 1945.Only nine participants took part in the inaugural event. Rani was the first winner to win the race.

There is a handicap competition which is held during the race. This race is usually considered as the Australia's main offshore sailing prize .The rules for handicap trophy changes with the passage of time. In the year 2005 .The handicap winner was determined on IRC handicap results. The race is organized under the guidance of the racing rules of sailing that is determined and even published by the International Sailing Federation. Women's participation in the race:

In the year 1946 Jane Tate was the first women to take part in this race. Her boat active was infact the only boat to reach Hobart. The first female skipper to complete the race is awarded with the prestigious the Jane Tate Memorial Trophy. In the year 2005, 24 women took part in the race. Adrienne Cahalan, who is famous for her world selling record, also took part in the race. So far, more than 1000 women have taken part in the race.
