The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts, Sydney, is organized every year since 1958. This festival continues to elevate and acquire recognition for ambitious Australians in assorted fields of arts such as verse, short story, song, art, photography and television. Children are also given the opportunity to hone their skills.

The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts, Sydney, is held in close propinquity to Henry's birthday, the June Long Weekend has been selected by the local towns' people of Grenfell as the time when they hold the yearly Henry Lawson Festival of Arts.

About Henry Lawson

Henry Lawson was born in 17th June 1867 on the Grenfell goldfields of New South Wales. He was an Australian writer and poet. Lawson and his coeval Banjo Paterson are the most popular Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period. During the later period of his life, the alcohol-addicted writer was credibly Australia's best-known celebrity. He was, at he same time a beggar on the streets of Sydney, notably at the Circular Quay ferry turnstiles.

Lawson was a loyal worshipper of the merits of the sketch story, commonly known as 'the sketch,' in terms of writing. The stories of Lawson like, Jack Mitchell story, On the Edge of a Plain, are often adverted as one of the most established cases of the sketch.

He was honored with a state funeral at the time of his death in 1922. The Prime Minister W. M. Hughes and the Premier of New South Wales Jack Lang as well as thousands of citizens attended his funeral and paid their last homage to this legendary poet. He is entombed at Waverley Cemetery.

The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts, Sydney is a very popular event here. The objective of the Festival is to boost and attain recognition for aspiring Australians in various fields of arts such as verse, short story, song, art, photography and television. Various talented children are also taken into consideration.

A committee of volunteers with assistance from local organizations in Grenfell and the Weddin Shire Council coordinates this festival. It caters to the taste and interests of everybody. The long weekend program includes the awards dinner, cars and bikes, a Friday night concert, guinea pig races, market stalls, poetry readings, a school drama day, street activities, vintage car show, craft, art & photography exhibitions, street parade & carnival, wood chipping and food and wine and much more. Many distinguished guests have come here and opened this festival.

No entrée fee is generally required to join this festival. This year the festival is supposed to be held from 7th June to 11th June 2007. The following are the authority of the festival:
