The increase in population in the 20th century was mainly affected by economic and political factors. The country was affected by the World War II and took measures to attract the workers from other countries to come to Australia to develop the country economically. The birth rates had decreased in the later half of the 20th century and thus immigration was a necessary aspect of this country. After the World War II, people from United Kingdom and Ireland mainly immigrated to Sydney.
Gradually the different religious groups have also variegated the immigration of the people to this city. Sydney also has almost 30,000 Aboriginal Australians who were the ancient origins of the city.
