Sydney Olympic Park

Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville
Spread across the suburb of Homebush Bay in New South Wales, Sydney Olympic Park covers an area of 640 hectares and is considered to be one of the most preferred sites for sporting and cultural events in Sydney.

Sydney Olympic Park was built as a part of Australia’s plans to host the 2000 Olympics. It is under the supervision of Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

Sydney Olympic Park: History

Before the Europeans established their settlement, the area spanned by Sydney Olympic Park was inhabited by the Wann-gal clan.
Prior to its present day incarnation, Sydney Olympic Park was reeling under the ill effects of being used for both military and industrial purposes for over hundred years. The area bore more semblances to an industrial wasteland than a sprawling park.

After the conclusion of the 2000 Olympics, Sydney Olympic Park underwent further changes and looked to accommodate more facilities. The surrounding areas too felt the winds of change with a number of business establishments shifting here and an opening of a swanky five-star hotel in the vicinity of the Park.

Sydney Olympic Park: Features

Sydney Olympic Park holds over 1800 events every year. Some of the notable ones include-

The Sydney Royal Easter Show- The show has been performed in Sydney Olympic Park since 1998. The Sydney Royal Easter Show combines an agricultural show, an amusement park and a state fair.
National Rugby League- The league is the most competitive rugby tournament for top clubs in Australia and New Zealand.
Big Day Out- Sydney Olympic Park has hosted this itinerant annual music festival. Big Day Out tours Australia and New Zealand charting out popular genres of music.

Sydney Olympic Park also hold number of aquatic and athletic meets every year.

For its picturesque location and lush green parks, Sydney Olympic Park is an ideal place for long solitary strolls of self-discovery or for the warmth of a pleasurable family picnic.
