Liverpool lies in the City of Liverpool, which is in the state of New South Wales. Liverpool is a suburb in the south west of Sydney and it is one of the oldest urban settlements in Australia. It takes its name from Robert Banks Jenkinson, who was the Earl of Liverpool in England. In respect to agriculture Liverpool was considered extremely productive, with almost all its economy issuing forth from poultry farming and market gardening.This was probably one factor which perpetuated its status as a satellite town. It was only in the 1950s that the working class appeared and took on the onerous task of lifting Liverpool to the status of a suburban. Liverpool soon became widely known for its expansive Housing Commission estate which was one of the offshoots of the urban renewal programs within Sydney in the 1960s. One of the salient points of the program was to clear away the slums and provide affordable houses to all, thereby also expanding the limits of the suburb. Liverpool is well connected to places like Sydney, Campbelltown and Parramatta with electric train service. The highways like Hume Highway and the M5 motorway like Liverpool to Sydney. Liverpool has one of the largest municipal libraries in Sydney. It also has a large teaching hospital and numerous shopping centers. In the wake of great economic crisis faced by Liverpool, the Government chose to dissolve the Liverpool City Council and take over the administration in its hand. Liverpool is also the place from where Sonic stir-fry, a weekly community radio program, is broadcasted. In spite of being situated on the outer fringes of the city, the people of Liverpool make sure they do not miss out on the fun in life. Liverpool has plenty of cool restaurants, bars and clubs some of which have provisions for live music. Some of the well known clubs and restaurants in Liverpool are-
- Pritchard's Hotel- The hotel host number of live performances. Apart from a cosy bar, it also has Trivia and Karaoke. Pritchard's Hotel is regarded safe for women.
- Moorebank Sports Club- Though the club is open only to the members and their guests, it is worth the effort to gain entry to the club. The club plays decent live music on weekends.
- Hunt's Supper Club- Apart from good live shows, the buffet in the club is sumptuous and reasonably priced.
